Board of Directors and Membership Meeting Minutes

1) Meeting Called to Order: DD
a) Meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm.


2) Secretary’s Report: LT
a) April minutes were approved at meeting. Minutes can be approved via email response, please respond if you approve or not. Website will be updated with minutes, spring clean-up results, pictures and sponsorships in the next month.

3) President: TS
a) absent no report for May

4) Vice President Report: GP
a) KMTB – Reported on Hydration systems in schools. Replace water fountains with more efficient hydration systems.
b) Economic Development: Need to make new companies LEED compliant (Leadership in energy and environmental design) to reduce impact on environment.
c) Looking at waste industries. How can CLUA get involved and assist with bottle tax bill?

5) Board Members Reports:
a) Jefferson County - Access Life Event – August – will send out save the date when available. Carson Newman students notified of clean up. Chamber members list received for mailings.
b) Hamblen County- KHMB assisting with clean-up & supplies
c) Hawkins County – Spring Clean-up made front pages of “Rogersville Review”.
d) Grainger County – Spring Clean-up was in “Grainger Today”, nice article and pictures. Need to send Thank You to Grainger County Sanitation Department for Dumpster.
i) ACTION ITEM: All counties - Get list of upcoming Boat Shows and Fairs that we can attend and get information out on CLUA and increase memberships.

6) Adopt a Barrel Report: BM absent
a) Need to find place to buy new barrels with a rounded top. Need to check with Dave Miller. Dave said he will investigate the company that picks up his waste oil.
b) New locations- 1) JC Park. - Donna and Gene Dunn & 2) Anderson Shoals (across from Legacy Bay), Bob Vollman
d) ACTION ITEM: Update barrel list

7) Treasurer Report
a) Annual Report to State of TN due on 7/1/18
b) Income total for year to date is $3,439
c) Expenses year-to-date $4,108
d) Current purchases included T-shirts, Pickers, keytainer and volunteer food.
e) Email any receipts to DD for reimbursement.

8) Water Sampling
a) Carson Newman will start water quality testing this May 15. Water sampling is the third Tuesday of each month, starting May 15.
b) GP proposed considering purchase of water sampling probe(s) for additional measurements such as dissolved oxygen, temperature and turbidity. GP will get pricing and specs on equipment for next meeting to determine if CLUA can purchase in future. Cost of water sampling not included in grant funding.
c) Bob Vollman has joined water sampling team and has new sample sites
d) Member of water sampling group need to meet and update sampling sites and simplify names of sites for easier recognition by members and public.
e) Still in need of volunteers for water sampling for both new locations and back-ups.

9) Membership
a) Elections will be held at June’s meeting on June 16
b) Annual Membership updates – 3 previous members paid annual membership fee.
c) New Members – Honorary members Dave & Jody Howells from Chelaque Estates.
d) Need to get new membership letters out. Need suggestions from board members on names and addresses. Please forward to DD.

10) New Business-
a) Elections for Executive Board will be held in June
b) Picnic is June 16 at Wani Village at 4:00 pm. Hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, ice tea and water will be supplied. NEED TO RSVP TO DD WHAT YOU CAN BRING.
c) Membership letters - bring suggested names & addresses to June meeting.
d) Suggestion for next promotion item – Reusable water bottle – CLUA will be active in trying to reduce waste that ends up in lake.
e) Fall Clean-up – Need to start planning

11) Results Spring Cleanup April 20/21
a) Was a great success. More than 10,000 pounds of trash and tires were removed from the shorelines of Cherokee Lake. About 120 volunteers worked within a 4-county area. Press releases were shown to members.
b) Thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers, a few listed below:
i) TVA – Brian Stewart and Tim Pruitt, Employees of TVA, generously donated their time and TVA provided a barge and boat.
ii) Middle East Tennessee Tourism Council, Julie Graham, her husband, and faithful dog
iii) Lakeside Marina – Dave & Georgia Miller – Hosting and providing boats and yummy hotdog lunch
iv) Black Oak Marina & Boat Owners
v) Gilmore Dock
vi) Huff’s German Creek Marina
vii) Wa-Ni Village Marina
viii) Grainger County Sanitation Dept.
ix) Misc. volunteers, Sierra Club, Tennessee Promise students, Carson Newman University students, Hamblen Morristown Beautiful, Legacy Bay and Chelaque Estate Communities, Katy Churovich, Autumn Crouch, Sabrina Seamon, Savannah Caughron, family of Papaw Willie. Abby Green – East Hight School Tennis Team, family members in Russellville, Whitesburg Utility and many more at various locations
x) Restaurant gift sponsors, many thanks, it is really appreciated and helps motivate and reward the volunteers.
c) Next year – Try to get Scouts involved and other youth groups, more marinas, maybe some campgrounds.
i) ACTION ITEM: Board member to provide DD with list of supplies held. Need to get all waivers back to DD. Need to get all receipts to DD.


12). Next Meeting
• The next BOD meeting will be on June 16th at 4:00 pm. at Wa-Ni Village Pavilion. There will be no meeting in July and August.

13). Meeting Adjourned
• Meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
