Cherokee Lake Users Association
Board Meeting (Open to public)
Date: 05/09/2017 Time: 6:30PM
Place: Good Sheppard Church

Present = VP George Proios, Sec. Kathy Dubey; board members present, Jim Whiting, Dave & Leona Toll and Frank Dubey. Absent - Pres. Tom Schumann, Treas Donna Dunn, and board members Gene Dunn, Al Schweigler.

George reported on a Sewage Treatment in Va. that has a ruptured discharge line dumping raw sewage into the river, he has discussed the situation with TDEC, as far as he knows the plant is still dumping raw sewage.

Treasurer Report : Clean Up cost listed. Promotional items, newspaper and radio advertising. Members to submit receipts for reimbursement to Donna asap. Balance from TVA grant will be used for October clean up. Funds from TWA $500 still waiting for reimbursement check.

Discussion on past clean up April 22nd., what is needed a grand total of lbs, which may possibly be obtained from the weight of the containers before they are emptied, also a total number of volunteers. An optional rain date was discussed, no decision. TVA would probably have a problem with a rain date. Further discussion is needed. Our results (totals) should be put in the local newspapers, this is great PR. Trash date for October is needed to be discussed. Dave mentioned the various prizes he had obtained from Businesses in the area. Not to long ago, we had a plaque to the winner (marina) who picked up the most trash, Frank believed this plaque which will need to be updated is at Lakeside, he will check. Jim and Frank are trying to get to the right person at Walter State, that would be great for the Fall CleanUp. Dave's interview on radio was a positive PR action. If we were to have more volunteers we will need Brian to give us whatever locations he is aware of that needs trash pickup, this would be very important. The time of the clean up was discussed and group said it should be longer (possibly from 9 to l). Date for Fall Clean up will be set by Carson Newman’s Operation Inasmuch Project date. Posted as soon as Donna hears from University.

Water sampling - water samples were obtained in April; however, Dr. Karr could not perform the analysis due to lack of materials needed, he is going to order the necessary materials and will advise George when to proceed with the sampling. Effort will be made to ascertain if sampling at or downstream of the munition plant could be implemented.

Frank/Kathy will investigate putting our meetings in the calendar of events in the Morristown paper and perhaps this should be done in Jeff City and Rogersville.

Discussion then followed on our election meeting/picnic, preference June 24, Jim will discussed the dates with Wani Village(Sheppards).

Meeting adjourned at 7:45PM
